Isoken Ogiemwonyi: Be the Best Dressed Wedding Guest & Not a ‘Dress & Heels’ Girl

Christmas wedding season is almost upon us, and if you’re anything like us, your calendar is packed with back-to-back weddings. So finding the perfect outfit to wear to them all is critical!
Weddings can be problematic because:
  1. Not everyday dress and heels
  2. Brides can be sensitive about what their guests wear
  3. You have to strike a balance between looking ‘peng peng’ like my London people say but not over dressed, and low-key without being too casual. (This is debatable in Nigeria sha).
Whilst I can be a ‘the streets are your runway and weddings your red carpet’ girl, somedays the same old dress and heels combination can become quite boring, especially in the wedding marathon season.
Check out our picks for wedding appropriate yet fashionable picks for the ‘Not Just A Dress & Heels’ kind of woman:
A Statement Dress and Flats
We didn’t say you have to give up on dresses altogether! You can pair a cute maxi with flats, hey presto!
Discomfort disappears, or alternatively a detail-heavy dress like this fringe and contrast panel dress is enough of a statement to pull off flats, great hair and makeup and you’re good to go!

Jumpsuit & Heels
I’m a sucker for jumpsuits. Rich colour, flattering silhouette and statement jewellery, and you’re done!

A Coords Set
Print or plain coordinated separates are the new formal. They keep separates polished without being fussy and are easy to upgrade a notch or two with great accessories.

Oleku Wrap
One of the most versatile pieces in a Nigerian woman’s wardrobe – this old yet new silhouette can go from a casual lunch date to yup, you guessed it – a fancy wedding. Just make sure your hair, makeup and accessories are SERIOUSLY #onfleek.

Separates
As a big fan of the Blairs (Gossip Girl and Atlantic Pacific), I love a circle skirt. Pair with a sweetly detailed blouse like this Muse Factory one and your preppy meets ladylike look is complete!
